|
Sally Ride was part of a group of 2 mommas and 8 puppies, about 3 weeks old, which were left in an overnight drop box at a rural North Florida county animal shelter. These poor mommas and pups were in about as bad a condition as you can imagine and would have certainly been euthanized if SEBR had not taken them. The mommas were emaciated and did not really have enough milk to feed their pups. The pups had worms, fleas, lice and several other intestinal parasites. Unfortunately, we lost one of the pups before we could even arrange transport to the Tampa area and lost another shortly after they arrived. Sometimes, despite everything you try, these poor little pups are just too weak from anemia and dehydration to survive.
But Sally and the other 5 did survive and have become happy and healthy pups. Both mommas, Leia and Olana, are doing much better and they certainly did everything they could to take care of their pups.
We do not want to misrepresent the puppies as pure Beagles since we have no background on them, cannot be positive that the litters were not mixed between Leia and Olana at the shelter and Leia is certainly a Beagle, possible, coonhound mix. So to be safe we are representing all 6 pups as “Almost Beagles” and let you judge for yourself. The adoption donation for the puppies will be $300.00, which includes them being spayed/neutered, microchipped and having the appropriate vaccines for their age when adopted. We have scheduled the puppies to be spayed/neutered the week of May 23rd and they should be available sometime after May 25th.
If you are interested in adopting one of these amazing pups we ask that you visit our web site, www.sebr.org, and fill out an Adoption Survey. After your Adoption Survey is approved we will ask that you make a $100.00 deposit, via PayPal or check, and that you specify if you will be adopting a male or female. The adopters will pick their puppy by appointment in the order in which the Adoption Survey and deposit is received. The balance $200.00 will be due at the time of adoption. (Note: The $100.00 is transferrable to any other SEBR Beagle should you decide not to choose a puppy)
Wouldn’t it be great to be the final link in a chain of humans that saved these puppies from certain death by adopting one and giving it the chance for the happy life each one surely deserves?
(In 1983, Dr. Sally Ride became the first American woman in space on the shuttle Challenger (STS-7). Her next flight was an eight-day mission in 1984, again on Challenger (STS 41-G). Her cumulative hours of space flight are more than 343.)
