UPDATE 3/7/23 - Fern is possibly one of the cutest little beagles we've seen, but she isn't perfect. She can be a little bossy with other females and certainly hold her own with males who are getting a little too fresh. But she is in a foster home with a lot of other dogs and doing really, really well. She will either need to find a home with other dogs she feels comfortable with or could be an only dog as well. Fern is making excellent grades on her house training but has learned to use a dog door to go outside. She does like to spend time outside, especially barking at squirrels in the trees and snuffling around on the ground of course. She loves toys and yes, she can be a little possessive about them. Fern is very affectionate although still just a little bit hand shy. Once she knows that hand reaching out over her head is landing gently and stroking she is all for it! Belly rubs are great! Snuggles and cuddles are one of her fortes! She is quiet except for when she's barking at squirrels and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She is moderate to low energy and a great little companion.
Fern came from Mississippi where she was confiscated by animal welfare authorities because she and several other dogs were all being kept in outside raised boxes with only chain link fence for flooring. Although she may not have experienced much TLC in her life, she is very sweet natured and friendly with only a trace of caution. She appears to be quite friendly with other dogs as well. Fern did test positive for heartworms but will be ready for treatment in early February. Something tells us this girl could be a super snuggler!
